Stockholms Saxofonkvartett has been, in its present constellation, active for nearly 20 years. Per Hedlund, Leif Karlborg, Jörgen Pettersson och Sven Westerberg have specialized in Swedish and foreign chamber music for saxophones as well as advanced electro-acoustic music. More than 200 works have been attributed to them.

A recurring theme in their work is a close collaboration
with Swedish and foreign composers as well as up-and-coming composers, mainly students from the Royal University-College of Music in Stockholm. Future plans include similar collaborations beyond the borders of
Sweden: in Moscow and Cairo, among other places. The
quartet holds seminars, takes part in concerts and
collaborates with artists in other discipines than their
own.

Their method of working has led to a rapid development of
their style and abilities They are among our absolute best interpreters in their very wide area of interest. Stockholms Saxofonkvartett is driven by an unbridled lust to constantly discover, to transcend the borders of what seems to be artistically possible. They often perform at international festivals, at operas and concert halls. Their ability to raise interest for contemporary music has greatly increased since the acquisition of their own studio in the nation’s capital.

The studio has quickly established itself as a meeting
place for musicians, composers, artists, choreograps and authors. Seminars and educational activities as well as other kinds of gatherings such as discussion groups and smaller gigs are held there. This has facilitated the possibilities for collaborative projects. Stockholms Saxofonkvartett would like to create an active centre for contemporary music and music/art activities with both Swedish and international inputs.

The quartet is widely traveled. They have toured Europe
(Baltic States, England, Germany, France, Italy, Russia,
etc.) and have performed in Japan, Egypt, Israel, South
Africa, Mongolia and in the USA. At the moment plans are
being made to travel to China, Japan, Australia, Brazil and Taiwan.

Stockholms Saxofonkvartett introduces Swedish music in
foreign countries and brings new musical experiences back
to the audience of Sweden.
