Concert Programme

The great Italian composer Luciano Berio has just recently passed away. With his passing, one of our most influential postwar composers has left our presence. As an homatge to him Magnus Andersson performed his collected works for solo guitar, as well as music by other Italian composers who have had connections to him.

Within the bounds of contemporary music, Magnus has been a leading guitarist for quite some time. He is most probably the most important guitarist for contemporary guitar literature, as many of our times’ most important composers have written music for him. Most noteworthy is his collaboration with a number of Italian composers. Last year his CD, Short Sounds Out, containing music written by Italian composers, came out on Nosag Records. It has achieved critical acclaim in the international press. It was also voted one of this year’s best records in the Swedish daily paper DN, as well as being the CD of the month in the newspaper Expressen. Seicorde, the Italian journal, also voted it the CD of the month. Another Italian journal, Guitart, claimed that the art of playing guitar had been "lifted to new heights" and the CD "is a necessity for each and every person who wants to know what real guitar playing can be."

The concert was a part of the master class in Contemporary Music for Guitar which was held at Växjö University during the same week.
