Master Class with Magnus Andersson - Contemporary Music for Guitar (5 units)
Magnus Andersson is known for the breadth and challenging difficulty of his repertoire as well as for his deeply personal relationship to his material and his audience. He has played a decisive role in the creation of the guitar´s modern repertory. Leading contemporary composers have dedicated many new works to him. Magnus taught at the Summer Course for New Music in Darmstadt from 1984 to 1996, where he founded the guitar classes.

Description
In recent years, the guitar has taken a more promintent role in contemporary music. The instrument is also featured more and more in newer chamber music. This course is for guitarists who wish to expand and deepen their knowledge of contemporary music for guitar -the repertory, its interpretation, and esthetic.

Master Class 2003
The repertoire is chosen individually, in consultation with the guitarist. The final exam is in the form of a concert at the end of the study period. Participation of guitar duos is also possible. Artistic director for the course is Magnus Andersson, a long-established leading contemporary music guitarist.

Eligibility
Admission is based on an audtion/interview to evaluate the applicant´s suitability and to rank applicants for selection. Auditions/interviews are scheduled for April 1, 2002.

Content
Instruction is in masterclass form and is open to auditors. The participant should be able to schedule at least 4 to 6 hours a day for the course, including time for self-study and several classes per week.

Seminars:
Subjects are chosen each day that relate to the guitar in contemporary music. Problems and issues are analyzed and discussed:
- notation/improvisation
- rythmic complexity and interpretation
- examination of the reperoire and listening/analysis
- issues of a technical/mechanical nature
- social context and esthetic issues
